Pre-Team
The Pre-Team is intended for swimmers 3-6 years old. If you are unsure whether or not your young swimmer is ready for swim team, the pre-team may be an option.
Swim Team Requirements: To be on the swim team requires independence in the water. This means the swimmer needs to demonstrate independent swimming abilities for a full 45 min practice period. We do not require that swimmers have any background or stroke experience to participate. The skills we will assess are:
- Following two step directions.
- Confidence in the water.
- Stamina: the ability to swim a full 45 min practice without rest.
- Swimming: the ability to swim the full length of the pool without help or guidance. (They do not need to be quick.)
- Recovery Abilities: the ability to tread water independently and to bring oneself to a lane rope or wall without help.
If one or more of these skills is missing from a swimmer, there could be safety concerns attached to their ability to participate on the team. Swim team is a great way to introduce young swimmers to new skills in the water, however, if they are not equipped with one or more of the foundational swimming skills listed above, we are asking that they work on those skills outside of swim team in an environment that is appropriate to their level and needs as a swimmer, either through the pre-team (if that is available) or through outside swim lessons.
Pre-Team Schedule: The pre-team has a separate schedule from the swim team although the times do overlap with morning practices. The exact days and times may change from year to year depending on the pre-team coach. Please check the Practice Schedule page for details.
PRE-TEAM AVAILABILITY IS LIMITED! To provide the safest and most beneficial learning environment possible we must enforce team size limits. If the Pre-Team is not available on the Registration form, you may follow the instructions to get on the Waitlist.
