Swim gear & other news
Hello Dolphins!
It was great to see so many of you at practice yesterday! And hooray for the weather holding out!
WEATHER: The weather is looking good for practice today – YAY! - but parents you may want to bring an umbrella just in case.
Please continue to check your email this week for updates regarding practices. What we watch for the most is lightning. We use the WeatherBug app.
We will send emails out if we cancel practice. You can also download the SwimTopia Mobile App for free and allow notifications. You need to log into the app with your existing "www.damwestdolphins.com" login and password. The notifications will come through on that app. Team members who don’t have the app, or don’t allow notifications, will receive the messages as an email.
For more information about practices, check out the “Practice Schedule” page on our website.
TEAM GEAR: I got a few questions about the team swimsuit and sweats order so just to clarify, if you ordered a team swimsuit, personalized sweats or t-shirts from Swim N’ Things by the May 7th deadline, they are in process. Swim N’ Things will get them to us by Memorial Day weekend and we will have them for you at the morning practice on Tuesday, May 30th.
TEAM GEAR 2nd ORDER: If you are new or missed the first deadline and would like to order a team swimsuit, personalized sweats or a t-shirt, Swim N’ Things will be doing one more order. The deadline is Saturday, MAY 27th. You can order directly from Swim N’ Things: https://www.swimnthings.com/swim-teams/damwest/
It will take 2 weeks after the deadline to get everything done so I estimate you’d have it by June 12th.
All of the team gear is optional. For swimsuits, we do ask that your swimmer wear a blue suit for the meets. For more information or to see what the team suit looks like you can go to our Team Gear page on our website.
GOGGLES: Please make sure your swimmer has a good pair of goggles for practice. It’s even better to have 2 pairs in case one breaks - especially at meets! For a good fit, the goggles should sit comfortably on the bridge of the nose and create a seal all the way around the eyes without any gaps. You should be able to press them on without the strap to see if there is a good seal.
Just for an example, my kids have used the TYR Swimple goggles since they were 5. You can find them at Swim N’ Things, Amazon or some sporting good places. (I think I have found them at Big 5 in the past.)
I’ll also repeat what Coach Emilie said in her last email: “Competitive swim goggles are best. I've seen some swimmers want to wear snorkel or mask-like goggles to cover their nose, but this can make it difficult to breathe while swimming laps. Goggles should fit comfortably for long periods of time in a competitive swim environment. Tinted goggles are also best for outside swimming and protection from the sun.”
CHAIRS: The pool management put out the lounge chairs last night so there will now be chairs to sit on. Yay!
PAST EMAILS / NEWS: Just a reminder that you can see all past emails on the "Recent News" section of the team home page.
As always, let me know if you have any questions.
That's all for now! See you at practice!
